Four acres of citrus, palms and lawns give Avalon Hotel & Bungalows Palm Springs the atmosphere of a private desert estate beneath the San Jacinto Mountains. Spanish-style buildings contain 54 rooms and 13 villas. Kelly Wearstler refreshes them with graphic textiles, vintage references and a polished Hollywood Regency sensibility. Three pools and two whirlpools are distributed through the gardens rather than concentrated in one resort zone. The restaurant, spa, private patios and bungalow courtyards retain the low-rise residential scale of the original property near Palm Springs’ historic centre.
