A restored early twentieth-century landmark on Broadway gives Downtown Los Angeles Proper an architectural presence unusual among the district’s newer towers. Kelly Wearstler fills 147 rooms and suites with saturated colour, vintage furniture, commissioned art and locally rooted references; two statement suites retain the building’s former basketball court and indoor pool. Restaurants, bars and lounges unfold through the lower floors before the hotel opens onto a rooftop pool above the city. Ornamental plasterwork, generous proportions and contemporary craft remain visible throughout the richly layered public rooms.
