Facing the Roman Forum near the Colosseum, Palm Suite occupies an 18th-century building whose windows look directly across the ruins of ancient Rome. Its handful of suites are unapologetically theatrical, combining saturated colour, patterned wallpaper, velvet, antiques and contemporary art with generous sitting rooms and views over the archaeological landscape. Breakfast is served within the suites, reinforcing the atmosphere of a private apartment rather than a conventional hotel. The layered interiors, palms and collected objects create a vivid counterpoint to the stone temples and imperial arches visible beyond the tall windows.
