Behind an early-19th-century house in Oaxaca’s historic centre, Pug Seal Zapoteco unfolds through courtyards, arcades and twenty individually composed rooms. Contemporary interpretations of Zapotec culture run throughout the interiors, including vivid murals by Rafael Uriegas, a sculptural staircase intervention by Sabino Guisú and brass inlays by Manuel Lozano. Breakfast is served within the house, and planted patios create quieter shared spaces away from the street. Colour, pattern and commissioned artwork continue across walls, ceilings and circulation areas, set against the masonry, arches and courtyard plan of the original building.
