In Toronto’s Garment District, where King and Queen streets converge, Ace Hotel Toronto is a purpose-built landmark of brick, concrete and timber by Shim-Sutcliffe Architects. Rooms soften the structure with Douglas fir cabinetry, custom quilts, deep window benches and an in-room vinyl library, with turntables or guitars in many categories. The suspended Lobby hangs beneath sweeping concrete arches and serves cocktails and small plates above Alder, chef Patrick Kriss’s wood-fired restaurant. Evangeline occupies the top floor as an all-season indoor-outdoor lounge and rooftop bar, its terrace looking across the city from Camden Street.
