Set among granite boulders near the NamibRand Nature Reserve, Zannier Sonop evokes a 1920s expedition camp in the southern Namib Desert. Ten one- and two-bedroom tented suites combine roll-up canvas walls, leather trunks, vintage furnishings and freestanding baths with private terraces facing the plains. Days range from guided drives and horse riding to hot-air-balloon flights, followed by the heated infinity pool, yoga or spa treatments. Five-course suppers are served with candelabras, while the cocktail and cigar lounge centres on billiards and parlour games. At dusk, the illuminated camp traces the rocky ridge beneath an open desert sky.
