Antarctica21 is the specialist behind the Antarctic air-cruise, replacing the conventional two-day Drake Passage crossing with a flight between Punta Arenas and King George Island before guests join a small expedition ship. Its purpose-built Magellan Explorer and Magellan Discoverer carry no more than 76 guests on air-cruise departures, a scale that allows the full complement to take part in landings without the rotation required on larger vessels. The company also operates longer sea voyages linking Patagonia, the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Antarctica, so the fly-and-cruise model is its defining product rather than its only one.

A shorter route to the Antarctic Peninsula
The charter flight is the practical distinction: weather permitting, guests reach the South Shetland Islands in around two hours and transfer directly into the expedition programme. On board, naturalists and polar guides plan Zodiac cruises, shore landings, wildlife observation and optional activities according to local conditions. Cabins and public rooms are contemporary but secondary to time off the ship, and the low guest count keeps embarkation efficient. Longer sea voyages use the same expedition disciplines while adding the open-water passages and remote islands omitted by the air-cruise format.

The Antarctic Peninsula without the full Drake crossing
Most air-cruises begin at King George Island and explore the western Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands, where the itinerary remains flexible around ice, weather and wildlife. Longer ship-based departures extend north and east to the Falkland Islands and South Georgia or follow the channels and fjords of southern Patagonia. The operator’s regional concentration is unusually tight: every voyage is connected to the far south of South America and the Antarctic realm rather than a wider global expedition schedule.
