About
Avalon Waterways
River views placed at the centre of the suite
Avalon Waterways is a river specialist whose most recognisable feature is the Panorama Suite: on two full decks of its European Suite Ships, beds face wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows that open widely to create an Open-Air Balcony. Ships typically carry around 150 guests or fewer and have a contemporary, informal feel rather than ornate hotel styling. Itineraries balance included sightseeing with a broader choice of active and interest-led excursions, giving travellers more flexibility in how they spend a day ashore without moving away from a conventional river-cruise format.

the experience
The view begins at the foot of the bed
Avalon designs its Panorama Suites so the river remains visible from the bed, with sliding glass opening most of the exterior wall rather than taking floor area for a projecting balcony. Public spaces follow the same open, contemporary approach, and dining is flexible by river standards, with several settings and lighter options across the day. Ashore, travellers can usually select between Classic guided visits, Discovery activities and Active outings such as walking or cycling. The choice varies by port, but it gives the programme more range than a single included group tour.
THE Destinations
European rivers with a selective wider reach
Europe accounts for the largest part of Avalon’s programme, particularly the Rhine and Danube systems, the Seine, Rhône and Douro. Beyond Europe, selected itineraries operate on the Mekong, Ganges and Nile, as well as in the Galápagos and Amazon region, using different local vessels. The experience is therefore not identical across every destination: the Panorama Suite concept belongs chiefly to the European Suite Ship fleet, while more distant routes are defined by regional ship design and smaller-scale operations.
