Both products are relaxed and inclusive in style, but their days unfold differently: river cruises revolve around inland cities and guided touring, while yacht itineraries favour island groups, coastal ports and swimming or watersports when conditions allow.

Emerald’s river ships use panoramic lounges, sun decks and compact dining rooms to keep the landscape close, with some vessels adding features such as an aft pool that converts into an evening cinema. The ocean yachts feel more residential, with suites, several dining spaces, generous deck areas and a marina used for swimming and watersports on suitable days. Service is friendly rather than ceremonial, and dress remains relaxed. The yacht experience carries more of a holiday-at-sea character, while the river programme is more structured around included sightseeing.

The river network covers the Rhine, Main, Moselle, Danube, Rhône, Saône and Douro, together with a separate Mekong programme in Cambodia and Vietnam. Emerald’s yachts range more widely through the Mediterranean and Adriatic, the Caribbean and Central America, and parts of the Indian Ocean including the Seychelles. Their small size suits lesser-used harbours and island itineraries, though exact access depends on the port and vessel. Travellers should choose between the inland cultural cadence of the river fleet and the more open coastal pace of the yachts.
