Built into the stone ramparts of hilltop Gordes, La Bastide unfolds through terraces, hanging gardens and pools that look across the Luberon. The 16th-century maison is furnished in the manner of an 18th-century Provençal residence, with antiques, carved timber, patterned textiles and artworks giving each of its 40 rooms and suites an individual character. Dining ranges from Jean-François Piège’s Clover Gordes to Mediterranean menus at La Table de La Bastide and the village trattoria La Bastide de Pierres. Stone stairways connect the spa, cypress-lined gardens and sunlit terraces, where the valley opens below the village walls.
