Above Playa Grande on the Dominican Republic’s north coast, Amanera occupies a dramatic clifftop backed by jungle and open to the Atlantic. John Heah’s architecture uses long rooflines, local stone and shaded courtyards to keep the landscape central, while casitas and casas extend onto terraces, lawns or private pools with uninterrupted sea views. The main pavilion gathers dining and lounge spaces around a reflecting pool, and a separate beach club brings the resort down to the sand. The spa sits among palms, with the neighbouring Playa Grande golf course following the coastline immediately beyond the grounds.
