In Sydney’s Sandstone Precinct, Capella Sydney occupies the heritage-listed former Department of Education building, a 1912 landmark restored behind its golden sandstone façade. The 192 rooms and suites combine original architectural proportions with contemporary Australian art, dark timber, custom furnishings and Frette-dressed beds. Brasserie 1930 and McRae Bar animate the ground floor, while Aperture’s planted courtyard brings daylight into the centre of the building. On level six, Auriga Spa, a 20-metre indoor pool and fitness facilities sit beneath restored heritage details, a few streets from Circular Quay and the harbour.
