In Oaxaca’s UNESCO-listed historic centre, Hotel Escondido Oaxaca brings a contemporary addition into a restored 19th-century house. Twelve rooms are distributed between the original structure and a slim new tower, using sabino wood, local textiles, stone shelving and handmade objects to connect the interiors with regional craft. Arches and tiled surfaces frame the restaurant and courtyard, where a compact pool brings light into the centre of the property. The rooftop and layered terraces look across the city’s low roofs, while heavy walls and an intimate sequence of rooms preserve the older house’s domestic scale against the new tower’s vertical profile.
