On open farmland near Hella, Hotel Ranga sits beside the East Ranga River with views towards volcanoes, glaciers and Iceland’s wide southern sky. The timber-built hotel combines country-house warmth with individually themed suites, wool textiles and broad windows framing the landscape. Geothermal hot tubs stand outside beneath the stars, while an observatory with resident astronomers supports northern-lights viewing in season. The restaurant works with Icelandic produce and river fish, and the glass-walled lounge opens towards the surrounding fields, where the low red-roofed building remains deliberately isolated from nearby settlements.
