Seen from the water, the circular 19th-century fort immediately identifies Mamula Island by Banyan Tree at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor. The 32 rooms and suites are worked into the restored stone structure, balancing preserved military architecture with restrained contemporary interiors and wide sea or mountain views. Three restaurants, four bars and three pools occupy different parts of the fort and shoreline, while a holistic spa and small beach soften the heavy masonry.
