In the Salento village of Gagliano del Capo, Palazzo Daniele reduces a 19th-century aristocratic residence to its essential architecture. Eleven suites retain frescoes, mosaic floors, vaulted ceilings and weathered plaster, set against contemporary art and deliberately minimal furniture. Meals are centred on the open kitchen, with produce drawn from local farmers and served across the palazzo’s communal rooms and garden. A courtyard pool, Kaffeehaus and shaded terraces extend the property outdoors. The old family chapel and richly patinated surfaces preserve the sense of a lived-in southern Italian house rather than a conventional resort.
