San Francisco Proper occupies a narrow 1904 Beaux-Arts flatiron building where Market Street meets Civic Center. Kelly Wearstler treats the 131 rooms as an evolving collection. Patterned textiles, deep colour, vintage furniture and local art replace a uniform hotel palette. Villon’s grand dining room anchors the ground floor, and Charmaine’s rooftop terrace lifts the social focus above the surrounding streets. Original architectural details survive in the intimate lobby, corridors and upper floors, reinforcing the idiosyncratic character of Albert Pissis’s historic structure.
