White marble rises directly from Lake Pichola at Taj Lake Palace, an eighteenth-century pleasure palace occupying a four-acre island opposite Udaipur’s City Palace. Guests arrive by boat to courtyards, fountains and arcaded terraces, before entering rooms and suites detailed with silk, painted motifs, mosaics and stained glass. Neel Kamal specialises in regional Indian cooking, Bhairo serves dinner on the rooftop, and Jharokha overlooks the water throughout the day. The pool and J Wellness Circle sit within the palace walls, while every outer terrace returns to the lake and surrounding Aravalli hills.
