The Merchant Baku occupies an 1858 building in central Baku, between the Old City, Nizami Street and the Caspian waterfront. Originally associated with the Caspian Shipping Company, the building now combines Azerbaijani carpets, marble, patterned floors and vintage-style furniture with Art Deco and Art Nouveau references. The 63 rooms carry that decorative character into the accommodation, with sixteen adding balconies over the surrounding streets. At the centre of the hotel, the restaurant and bar share a high-ceilinged space beneath a glazed roof, complemented by an outdoor terrace. A 24-hour gym rounds out the facilities without changing the property’s compact, city-centre scale.
