Inside the Autostadt complex, The Ritz-Carlton, Wolfsburg faces the Volkswagen power station, harbour basin and landscaped park. Elliott Barnes refreshed the interiors while retaining elements of Andrée Putman’s original design, using warm timber, stone and a substantial contemporary art collection. Rooms and suites look across the Autostadt or canal according to position. Aqua presents tasting menus, Aura serves seasonal international dishes, and Terra provides Mediterranean cooking beside the water. A 40 metre outdoor pool appears to float within the harbour. Kraftwerk spa adds treatment space, saunas and steam rooms, with a gym nearby. The Phaeno Science Center and Wolfsburg railway station lie beyond the Autostadt grounds on foot.
