In Chicago’s Gold Coast, Viceroy Chicago rises from the restored brick and terracotta façade of the 1920s Cedar Hotel into a folded glass tower. Its 180 guestrooms and suites use deep blue, black and gold details against sculptural headboard walls and floor-to-ceiling city views. Somerset occupies the dramatic ground-floor dining room beneath the preserved Cedar Hotel sign, while Pandan brings cocktails and East Asian-influenced plates to the upper floors. A rooftop pool, terraces and fitness centre sit above the neighbourhood, and the contrast between the landmark base and contemporary tower remains the hotel’s clearest architectural signature.
