About
Glacier Express
Eight hours across the Swiss Alps
Glacier Express makes the full journey between Zermatt and St Moritz in around eight hours, crossing 291 bridges and passing through 91 tunnels. It is a scheduled panoramic day train rather than a private luxury train, with First and Second Class seating and a limited Excellence Class. The distinction matters: the landscape is shared by all three classes, while space, dining and service vary considerably.

the experience
Three ways to travel the same Alpine line
First and Second Class use panoramic coaches with meals available to pre-order and served at the seat. Excellence Class is limited to a small number of guests, guarantees a window seat and includes a five-course menu with wine, concierge service and access to the Glacier Bar. Every class travels the same route; the choice is primarily about space, service and dining.
THE JOURNEYS
Zermatt to St Moritz via the Oberalp Pass
The line runs through Brig, Andermatt and Chur, crossing the Oberalp Pass and Rhine Gorge before following the UNESCO-listed Albula railway towards St Moritz. It can be travelled in either direction, with seasonal differences in timetable and frequency. Hotel stays at both ends are worth planning first, particularly where mountain transfers or onward rail connections are involved.

THE WIDER JOURNEY
Before boarding and after arrival
The departure and arrival cities can be as much a part of the experience as the train itself. Marbury can arrange hotels, flights and transfers around the rail journey, whether that means arriving the night before departure, spending a few additional days at the final destination or continuing elsewhere as part of a longer itinerary.
