Rovos Rail uses one train style across a notably broad range of journeys. From its private station in Pretoria, departures run from two nights to more than two weeks, reaching Cape Town, Durban, Victoria Falls, Namibia, Tanzania and other parts of southern Africa. Pullman, Deluxe and Royal Suites are all en-suite, while the dining cars, lounges and open rear observation platform establish a formal, deliberately unhurried atmosphere aboard.

Three suite categories and an open rear platform
Pullman Suites are the most compact and change between daytime seating and sleeping arrangements. Deluxe Suites add a separate sitting area and fixed beds, while Royal Suites provide the most space and include both a shower and bath. Meals are served in dedicated dining cars, with jackets and ties generally expected at dinner. The observation car’s open rear platform is available when operating conditions permit.
THE JOURNEYS
From South Africa to longer journeys across the continent
Pretoria–Cape Town is the classic introduction to Rovos Rail, while shorter departures also reach Durban and Victoria Falls. Longer itineraries cross Namibia or continue through Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania and, on selected journeys, Angola or the Democratic Republic of Congo. The balance of train nights, hotel stays, safari drives and border crossings changes substantially, making itinerary choice more important than cabin choice.
