The Ghan
Across Australia’s interior from Adelaide to Darwin
The Ghan links Adelaide and Darwin across 2,979 kilometres of the Australian interior. It is not a continuous stretch aboard: three- and four-day programmes are punctuated by off-train experiences in the Red Centre and Top End, with the sequence changing by direction and departure year. Gold, Gold Premium and Platinum service combine sleeping accommodation with all-inclusive dining, selected drinks and guided stops.

Private cabins and long days through the outback
Gold Twin Cabins convert from a daytime lounge into upper and lower berths and include a compact en-suite. Gold Single Cabins have one berth and use shared facilities at the end of the carriage. Gold Premium adds redesigned cabins and separate lounge and dining cars; Platinum provides almost twice the space of Gold Twin, with double or twin beds and a larger bathroom. Meals and selected Australian drinks are included in all three services.
THE JOURNEYS
From South Australia to the tropical Top End
The core line passes through Alice Springs and Katherine, with departures also incorporating Marla, Manguri or Coober Pedy according to direction and year. These stops are not interchangeable: some are short trackside experiences, while others involve a substantial day away from the train. Journey length and off-train programme should therefore be compared before cabin category.
