Akelarre occupies a hillside on Mount Igeldo above San Sebastian, with the Bay of Biscay stretching across almost every principal space. The hotel was added to Pedro Subijana’s long-established restaurant in 2017, creating a contemporary building of stone, timber and broad glazing. Rooms keep the palette restrained and direct attention towards the sea, with terraces and large windows extending the coastal outlook. The original Akelarre restaurant remains central to the property, joined by additional dining and bar spaces, while the spa includes treatment rooms and water-based facilities. The drive above the city places the hotel apart from San Sebastian’s dense historic centre while keeping it within easy reach.
