Within San Pedro de Atacama, Awasi Atacama is enclosed by adobe walls and built from locally sourced stone, wood and thatch, drawing on construction methods associated with the ancient village of Tulor. The round rooms and suites continue that language with curved earthen walls, woven textiles, thatched ceilings and private patios. A shaded swimming pool sits beneath mature trees, while the open-air lounge gathers around a circular firepit and the restaurant works with desert ingredients including chañar, quinoa and algarrobo. Native gardens soften the courtyards between the low, terracotta-coloured buildings.
