At the edge of Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone, Hotel Californian occupies a cluster of Spanish Colonial Revival buildings between State Street and the waterfront. Martyn Lawrence Bullard’s interiors introduce Moroccan tilework, graphic textiles and dark timber to 121 rooms and suites, many with balconies facing the mountains, city or sea. Blackbird, Goat Tree and Djinn provide distinct dining and bar settings, while Majorelle Spa draws on North African design and botanical treatments. The rooftop pool looks over red-tiled roofs towards the Pacific, with Stearns Wharf and the galleries of the Funk Zone immediately beyond the hotel.
