The Ned

London
,
United Kingdom
The former Midland Bank headquarters gives The Ned a scale and theatricality that would be difficult to recreate in a purpose-built hotel. Sir Edwin Lutyens’s banking hall now contains several restaurants and bars beneath soaring columns. Bedrooms draw on 1920s and 1930s references through patterned textiles, vintage-style furniture and richly detailed bathrooms. Ned’s Club extends the social side of the property with members’ spaces, rooftop pool, gym and further dining; a spa and treatment rooms sit below ground. Original banking spaces remain legible throughout, from the monumental hall to the vault-like rooms beneath Poultry, making the architecture more than background decoration.
