Calle Echegaray places Gran Hotel Inglés deep within Madrid’s Barrio de las Letras, on the site of a hotel first opened in 1886. The current interiors take cues from the 1920s through upholstered walls, polished metals and tailored detailing. The 48 bedrooms retain a relatively intimate scale and add contemporary marble bathrooms. Lobbyto operates as restaurant, bar and principal social room rather than separating those functions across multiple spaces. A small wellness area provides treatments alongside a compact gym. Plaza de Santa Ana and the Prado are close, with the narrow, restaurant-lined streets of the literary quarter immediately outside the entrance.
