Mercer Sevilla occupies Casa Palacio Castelar in El Arenal, placing a late-nineteenth-century Sevillian mansion between the cathedral, bullring and the Guadalquivir. Architects Cruz y Ortiz restored the house around its central courtyard, retaining the marble staircase and glazed dome while introducing crisp contemporary detailing through the rooms and public spaces. Bedrooms and suites are spacious and restrained, with stone, timber and custom furnishings rather than overt period decoration. María Luisa restaurant provides the principal dining room, while the rooftop terrace and swimming pool open above the historic roofline, creating a markedly different space from the enclosed patios and salons below.
